A drug-resistant superbug fungus has sickened almost 600 people across the United States in recent years, including more than 300 patients in New York State, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported. The doctors prescribed antibiotics and antifungal medication, but fluconazole was discontinued after a week when the fungus was tested to be resistant to it, the report said. (more...)

Harvard University published a study that shows just one or two cans of soda, energy drinks, or juice per day is enough to raise the risk of premature death by more than a fifth. Participants were quizzed on their health and lifestyle habits at two-year intervals throughout the term of the study. By definition, a "Fully Immunized Child" (FIC) is an infant who has "received one dose of BCG, three doses each of OPV, DPT, and Hepatitis B vaccines, and one dose of measles vaccine before reaching one year of age". Finding them homes, health care, food etc. help them first. The NYC Care plan would improve that coverage, which already insures some 516,000 people, and aim to reach more of those who are eligible, such as the young and uninsured, and others who qualify but have not applied.
