First, Joker became the highest-selling rating R movie after beating out Deadpool.

Of course, this news somewhat depends on how you define "profitable.' For instance, the highest-grossing comic book movie of all time is Avengers: Endgame".

Five weeks after its release, "Joker" is still breaking records.

Forbes notes that Joker is on track to reach $957 million worldwide Friday, November 8.

Joker's success doesn't really come as a surprise knowing Joaquin Phoenix's ability as an actor, however, the movie has been clouded by controversy ever since its global release.

After all, the likes of "Aquaman" and "Wonder Woman" - well-received and profitable, though they were - still saw Warner Bros. taking on huge budgets to make them happen.

The Todd Phillips directorial is also expected to enter the billion dollar club before it exits the theatres, judging by its current performance. "When it tops $1 billion worldwide in the next week or so, it'll be the cheapest movie to do so, with a budget just under the $63 million spent by Jurassic Park back in 1993", the Forbes report reads. There were concerns that the movie would encourage violence among individuals with the same temperament and personality as Phoenix's character, Arthur Fleck - so much so that the Federal Bureau of Investigation actually checked Joker posts on social media and the New York Police Department patrolled screenings during the film's premiere.

Director Todd Phillips "Joker" centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen.
