Dion Waiters and Miami Heat Have Reached ‘Breaking Point’

Dion Waiters

As far as official injury reports go, the Heat listed Waiters as out with a stomachache ahead of their Thursday night game, before the team flight, and as out with an illness last night.

Dion Waiters has not played for the Heat this season, and that streak continued Friday under weird circumstances.

The next game Waiters, 27, will be eligible to play in following the suspension will be the Heat's road matchup against the Nets on December 1. If the league does slap him with a multiple-game suspension for his actions, he can kiss his money goodbye. This bodes as bad news for Waiters, who was a talented shooting guard and an NBA All-Rookie First Team selection in 2013. "He's good. We appreciate it".

"Based on the Heat's approach to this point, as well as ongoing differences with Waiters regarding the guard's conditioning, it appears the incident on the team flight was a breaking point", Winderman wrote.

Waiters faces losing out on a $1.2 million contract bonus if he misses four more games this season.

It is also possible that the Heat keep Waiters on the roster and on the bench, though that does provide a certain amount of distraction that a team like the Heat surely do not want to deal with. He signed a $52M contract extension in 2017. He was in another part of AmericanAirlines Arena working out during the Heat-Rockets game and he was dealing with a stomach illness the day of the Heat-Suns game.
