Malan-Morgan-Parkison star in destructive English win over New Zealand

England score their highest ever T20 total by posting incredible 241 runs in first innings

With England having rested a number of their 50-over World Cup winners, including Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler and Joe Root, the five T20Is have given players previously on the fringes of the squad, as well as a number of new faces, the chance to impress.

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bowl in the crucial fourth T20 global against England in Napier on Friday. His explosive innings made of seven fours and seven sixes.

Morgan was out in the last over for 91, ending a 182-run partnership which was the highest by an England pair in T20s and the fourth highest of all-time.

76 - Runs by England in the last four overs of their innings - the most by any team in a T20I. Malan (103*) recorded a maiden T20I century while Morgan blasted 41-ball 91 to propel England to 241/3, their highest ever total in the format.

Their assault neutralised a shaky start with Jonny Bairstow (8) falling in the fourth over.

Malan became only the second Englishman to hit a century in a Twenty20 global when he smacked his sixth six, reaching the mark quicker than Alex Hales with his 60-ball hundred against Sri Lanka during the 2014 World Cup. Malan's is the second fastest T20I hundred by any batsman against New Zealand; Richard Levi's 45-ball hundred remains the fastest. His innings consisted of 9 fours and 6 sixes. Malan completed his ton off 48 balls while Hales had taken 60 balls.

Kiwi captain Tim Southee took one wicket and spinner Mitchell Santner got two wickets. He played just 17 balls to reach the hundred from fifty. Stand-in skipper Tim Southee scored 39 runs off 15 balls with two fours and four sixes.

However, he was trapped lbw - leggie Matt Parkinson ending with four wickets - and come the end, the only standing required by the Napier faithful was to leave their seats and make a beeline for the exit. Chris Jordan got two, Sam Curran one, Tom Curran one and Pat Brown also got one wicket each.

Bairstow will remain with the squad after the end of the T20I series which concludes on Sunday (November 10) at Eden park in Auckland and provide cover for England's two-day warm-up match against a New Zealand Cricket XI and the three-day game against New Zealand "A", both to be played at Cobham Oval, Whangarei.
