Colin Farrell in talks to play Penguin in The Batman reboot

BREAKING Andy Serkis in Talks to Play Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman

The Batman cast is fleshing out its most important parts, with writer/director Matt Reeves' film recently finding its villains (Paul Dano's Riddler, Zöe Kravitz's Catwoman) and supporting crew (Jeffrey Wright's Jim Gordon). Serkis had previously worked with Reeves on the critically acclaimed Planet of the Apes films where he provided the incredible mo-cap performance for Ceasar the ape.

Colin Farrell is in talks to star as one of Batman's foes, the Penguin, PEOPLE has learned. Jeremy Irons, Michael Caine and Michael Gough have all previously put their stamp on the Alfred Pennyworth role, so Andy Serkis wouldn't be that farfetched of a choice. This won't be Farrell's first gig as a supervillain, as he played Bullseye in 2003's Daredevil. Serkis has been tapped to direct "Venom 2".

Major Batman reboot news as the upcoming Warner Bros. film closes in on casting two actors for major roles.

Danny DeVito is the last actor to have played the Penguin on the big screen, in Tim Burton's 1992 film Batman Returns, and actor Robin Lord Taylor played the character on Fox's series Gotham.

Outside of these reports, there have also been some exciting rumours from usually very reliable scooper Thomas Polito. If true, of course.

This is obviously still very early into the pre-production for The Batman, which isn't due to arrive in Irish cinemas until June 2021, but obviously any kind of nod towards the intense action of John Wick can only be a good thing.
