Trump's loathing of Ukraine dates to his earliest days in White House

President Donald Trump speaks in the Diplomatic Room of the White House Sunday

'This is over a phone call that is a good call, ' Trump said of the impeachment inquiry, just hours after House Democrats voted unanimously to formalize their probe.

Democrats contested White House assertions.

Earlier this week Army Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, an expert on Ukraine on the National Security Council, testified that Sondland implored Ukrainian officials to open the investigations during a 10 July meeting attended by Perry. Pelosi also said she does not know "what the timetable will be" for the inquiry and that they "have not made any decisions on if the president will be impeached".

"I would assume there would be public hearing in November", Pelosi, the top Democrat in Congress, said in an interview with Bloomberg.

Donald Trump has promised to read a transcript of his controversial phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in a "fireside chat" broadcast live to the American people. They admitted at the same time that Ukraine has not got the appropriate jurisdiction to take the case regarding former U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden, so there are no grounds for the legal investigation in the country.

Mr Trump acknowledges discussing Mr Biden, a leading Democratic 2020 candidate, but denies there was anything wrong with the request.

Trump has repeatedly said there was no quid pro quo even as he asked the Ukrainian leader for "a favor" in the form of politically-related investigations.

The instruction to stay quiet came after White House officials had already discussed moving a rough transcript of the call into a highly classified computer server, and the instruction was delivered by Eisenberg, who would later be involved in the administration's battle to keep an explosive whistleblower complaint about the call from being shared with Congress.

During a press gaggle outside the White House, Trump was asked if he had any evidence of his baseless claim that Vindman is a "Never Trumper"- the kind of Republican whom Trump has described as "human scum".

CBS reported the whistleblower has offered to answer written questions posed by Republican lawmakers without having to go through the House Intelligence Committee's Democratic majority, according to the whistleblower's attorney.

Democrats who accuse Trump of abusing his office and jeopardizing national security for personal political gain were nearly unanimous in approving Thursday's measure, but they did not pick up a single Republican vote. "But the whistleblower should be revealed". The conviction of the president can only happen in the Senate and requires at least two-thirds of its members, or 67 senators, to vote in favor.
