Microsoft Reveals New Logo for Microsoft Edge

Microsoft's Chromium-based browser has a new icon that frees it from Edge and Internet Explorer's past

Microsoft is clearly making much of the use of the Chromium engine as well as the new look, something it demonstrated in the unusual way the new logo was revealed. The new logo still looks like an "e" but more in line with the company's push for a "Fluent design" language. The release of a new Microsoft Edge logo assumes great importance since the company is gearing up for a transition from the erstwhile Internet Explorer. It still looks to be a representation of the letter "e", but at least it doesn't look too familiar to the previous one. However, it's a new security feature on the Edge preview that is really interesting.

The new Edge logo was revealed as part of a treasure/easter egg hunt from Microsoft, which involved the Edge team posting a number of puzzles and clues on the /r/MicrosoftEdge subreddit.

This all led to a series of words discovered in seven clues, which were then inputted into a Javascript function on Microsoft's Edge Insider website. Plus, it probably makes a lot easier to distinguish between the older, classic Edge and this new Edge browser Microsoft has been cooking up for months.

Microsoft is now working towards the Edge browser based on Google's Chromium open-source engine. The message is clear: Microsoft is breaking with the past with this new version.

To be fair, you shouldn't eat the logo either.
