A 'Hocus Pocus' Sequel Is Finally In The Works

New ‘Hocus Pocus’ movie coming from Disney

Collider reports Disney+ has hired Workaholics writer and co-producer Jen D'Angelo to pen the script for a sequel to 1993's Hocus Pocus.

After years of speculation, it's been revealed a sequel to the iconic (definitive, really) Halloween film is officially in the works at Disney Plus - and based on the little deets we know, it sounds like an absolute scream! Disney+ is hoping/optimistic that all three will be involved somehow, though it is unknown if they would return in main roles or as bit characters while a new generation of witches takes on the mantle of terrorizing the good people of Salem (or even possibly an all new location).

The original Hocus Pocus centered on a trio of witch sisters who are accidentally resurrected after being dead for centuries.

Released in July 1993 (yes, 26 years ago and yes, for whatever reason, not released at Halloween), Hocus Pocus wasn't actually much of a hit. Midler, Parker, and Najimy's hammy charisma and star presence is what elevated the film from being a forgettable fantasy-comedy - Midler's glamorous and campy performance in particular. Endlessly quoted and memed, nostalgic fans have demanded a sequel for years, but a sequel without the stars that made it would not cast the same magic spell. Midler, Parker and Najimy played the Sanderson sisters Winnie, Sarah and Mary, and were joined by Omri Katz, Vinessa Shaw and Thora Birch in the supporting cast.

The Disney+ streaming service launches Tuesday, Nov. 12.
