Bradley Beal gets 2-year extension with Wizards

Bradley Beal has committed to the Washington Wizards for another two years

However, Beal did not show interest in the initial overtures from the Wizards front office.

Unlock 75% more savings this festive season. And this is a very big opportunity right here with Bradley Beal. The Wizards are concerned with development with John Wall on the mend.

At first, it seemed as though Beal was a bit hesitant to sign an extension with the Wizards especially since the team is in a bit of disarray.

For Washington owner Ted Leonsis and new general manager Tommy Sheppard, Beal's decision represents a spectacular victory in the organization's monthslong campaign to recruit Beal into a belief that the organization has a viable plan to rapidly redirect a course toward contention.

The timing of the option year could be strategic. The Wizards drafted Beal with the third overall pick out of Florida in 2012.

"What he could sell to Beal was loyalty, the comforts of home, a central role in the franchise's thinking and a vision for how best to execute an inevitable turnaround", the publication wrote, adding that it helped the Wizards front office included an irresistible paycheck.

A recent report from The Washington Post suggested "there is a growing belief that Beal will not remain in Washington for his entire career", and the team would consider moving him if he didn't sign the new deal. "I'm proud to continue leading this team both on and off the court and look forward to being part of building something special".

Beal reaches 10 years of service in 2022, which is an important benchmark if he decides not to exercise his option for 2022-23. Some would say he hasn't even entered his peak age. The two-time All-Star averaged career highs in almost every statistic, including points (25.6), assists (5.6), rebounds (five), steals (1.5), and minutes per game (36.9). All of that while also making a difference in the D.C. community, which earned him the NBA Cares Community Assist Award. "All that plays a factor", Beal told The Post.
