Rams trading multiple first-round picks for Jalen Ramsey

Jalen Ramsey gives the Rams a lockdown cornerback- if he's used correctly

The cost for acquiring Ramsey, who is arguably the best corner in football, was steep: a first-round pick in 2020 and 2021, and a fourth-round pick in 2021. Squaring off with Julio Jones on Sunday when Los Angeles pays a visit to the Atlanta Falcons.

"Over the past month, (Jaguars general manager Dave) Caldwell had received interest from numerous teams, at least one of which proposed sending two first-round picks in exchange for Ramsey, with another offering a first-rounder and a player regarded as having first-round value".

Earlier this afternoon the Rams sent corner Marcus Peters to the Baltimore Ravens for linebacker Kenny Smith and a draft pick.

Just a few hours later, Los Angeles acquired one of the game's best defenders in that of cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars in a blockbuster trade.

Ramsey's first challenge in a Rams uniform?

Ramsey, who has requested a trade out of Jacksonville, did not see the field during the team's game against the New Orleans Saints this weekend.

A lack of first-round selections could mean that the Rams will explore trade options to further bolster their offensive line, though enticing trade capital could be thin. Using those picks correctly, whether taking players or packaging the picks to move up, could set the franchise up for a run of sustained success that hasn't happened since the late 1990s.

Without question, it's awesome what an impact player can do for your fortunes that remain in a season.

It's also what has led to the Rams making trade after trade in the secondary over the past two years, completely reshaping the look of their pass defense. Right now, the Rams are 3-3 and coming off a pair of disappointing losses to Tampa Bay and San Francisco. Like, if you the number one pick, you expected to start now.

Rookie Bobby Evans, a third-round pick from Oklahoma, is on the roster but coaches have expressed that his development has proceeded at a slower pace.
