In August, 19-year-old Harry Dunn died after his motorbike collided with a auto driven by a U.S. diplomat's wife Anne Sacoolas on the wrong side of the road outside a United Kingdom air base.
Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunnsaid that Trump dropped "the bombshell soon after we walked in the room: Anne Sacoolas was in the building and was willing to meet with us".
Ms Charles said: "We didn't get the answers that we wanted".
"I offered to bring the person in question in".
Over the weekend, Mrs Sacoolas broke her silence over Mr Dunn's death in a letter via her lawyers.
Charlotte Charles, mother of Harry Dunn, who died after his motorbike was involved in an August 2019 accident in Britain with Anne Sacoolas, wife of an American diplomat, speaks at a news conference as she is joined by husband Bruce Charles, left, stepfather of Dunn, Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, in NY. Enter a man whose name is synonymous with justice and all that is right in the - nah, we're just kidding, it's Trump.
Sacoolas left Britain shortly after, though police released a statement saying she had previously told them she had no plans to depart. "Unfortunately when we had everybody together they decided not to meet".
Harry's father, Tim, added that he did not feel that the meeting was a publicity stunt.
The Dunn family has appealed for Sacoolas to return to the United Kingdom, and have asked Trump to intervene.
He added the president had appeared moved when he learned Harry was a twin, and had agreed he would be fighting for justice if one of his own children had been killed. Trump said Sacoolas told him that she was accidentally driving on the wrong side of the road - something Trump said "happens in Europe" because drivers in England drive on the left side of the road instead of the right.
Mr Dunn told the Today Programme Ms Sacoolas's statement had made the situation "a little bit worse".
"[O'Brien has] heaped grief and pain on the family by making them go through this but not allowing them to get the closure they need by talking to Mrs. Sacoolas before they can go onto the grieving stage", Stephens said.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has demanded that Sacoolas should return to Britain, adding, "I do not think that it can be right to use the process of diplomatic immunity for this type of objective". If are going to the White House, surely this is a good step forward'. We raised our childhood to be as honest as the day is long.
She said that emotionally it would not be good for her, her husband or for Ms Sacoolas to meet on such short notice, without therapists or mediators present.
"So we went round in circles for a few minutes after that", Charles added. He would have done the same for anyone of us. "We didn't want to be sort of railroaded, not into a circus as such, but a meeting we weren't prepared for", he said. "If that doesn't come in the way we want it, we will continue to work and we will try and get those diplomatic laws looked at".
On Monday, Harry's parents Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn, gave interviews on US TV after flying to NY in a bid to publicise their case.
