Rock Hall Announces Nominees for the Class of 2020

Nominees for the Rock Halls Class of 2020 coming Tuesday morning

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its nominees for the class of 2020, and The Notorious B.I.G. and Whitney Houston are among the nominees. The Dave Matthews Band, Soundgarden and Nine Inch Nails are among the 16 acts nominated, which includes nine that are on the ballot for the first time.

Since the hall's inception in 1983 and first class of inductees in 1986, it has taken criticism at times for what some have seen as under-representation for women, hip-hop, new wave, heavy metal, progressive rock and others working outside the traditional rock framework.

Germany's electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk are also up for the honor, with Nine Inch Nails, Judas Priest, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, MC5, Todd Rundgren, T.Rex and Thin Lizzy rounding out the pack.

You can vote on your top five choices for Rock Hall induction via a Google fan vote here. Biggie's lauded 1994 album, Ready to Die, makes him eligible for this award.

The last rapper to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was Tupac in 2017.

As has become their custom, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced the individual members of each nominated act that will be eligible to accept should their band be chosen for induction.

Fans will once again have the chance to cast their vote in the annual fan ballot.

Inductees are chosen following a survey of more than 1,000 musicians, historians and industry members, who consider an act's career work, innovation, skill and influence in voting in new members.

Current Dave Matthews Band members Dave Matthews, Stefan Lessard, Carter Beauford, Tim Reynolds, Rashawn Ross and Jeff Coffin were selected along with former violinist Boyd Tinsley and deceased saxophonist LeRoi Moore. Rex, and the Doobie Brothers.

For Judas Priest, who has also gone through many lineup changes through the years, the Rock Hall singled out Les Binks, K.K.

The rest of the nominees have been nominated before but not made the final cut. Chaka Khan, with and without the group Rufus, and Kraftwerk have both been up six times.
