Chicken recall due to Listeria contamination expands

Tip Top Poultry Inc.'s Rockmart, GA, plant has updated its September 28 recall of an undetermined amount of ready-to-eat (RTE) poultry products that may be adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes, The update is to alert consumers that the recalled ready-to-eat poultry products were used in additional products.

The recall includes chicken products used at delis at grocery stores. Some of the retailers include Food Lion, Aldi, Giant Supermarket, and Jersey Mike's.

The recall includes any products produced at their Rockmart, Georgia, facility between January 22, 2019 and September 24, 2019.

A Georgia-based poultry company has expanded a recall of its ready-to-eat (RTE) meals from stores, citing concerns over a bacterium found in samples that could lead to a serious infection if consumed.

Various chicken products from Target and Trader Joe's are the latest to be affected in a major food recall.

Their news release urges any consumer or institutions in possession of these products not to consume or serve them. "P-17453" inside the USDA mark of inspection. Symptoms of infection include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

While anyone is susceptible to listeriosis, those most at-risk include older adults, pregnant women, unborn babies and those with weakened immune systems.

An outbreak of listeria in the USA lasted from November 2016 to September 2019 and affected 10 people in five states, according to the CDC. Those experiencing these symptoms within two months after eating contaminated food should seek medical care. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
