Delle Donne a unanimous All-WNBA first team choice

Delle Donne

Sparks guard Chelsea Gray has been selected to the All-WNBA first team along with Washington Mystics forward Elena Delle Donne, who was selected league MVP, Phoenix Mercury center Brittney Griner, Chicago Sky guard Courtney Vanderloot and Seattle Storm forward Natasha Howard. She's listed as questionable for Game 3. She nailed her first three shots of the contest, all threes where she was left wide open. I was glad to have a little bit of a break to get it to calm down a little bit, just trying to find ways to stay comfortable and stay loose.

While the Mystics ultimately played both Delle Donne and Atkins, it was the entire Mystics roster that undid the Sun.

"I think any player, when they see [an MVP playing through pain], they say 'well, I can't complain about anything. We have one more to go".

"It was tough. This is tough. I love them. I did nothing, I was just on the court, they carried me and they've done that all season long", Delle Donne said. "It is what it is".

Plus from an emotional standpoint, it's uplifting to see your best player out there beside you - especially on the road in front of a raucous CT crowd.

Toliver, Emma Meesseman and Natasha Cloud carried the offense.

"Her presence alone, whether she's 100 percent or 10 percent, just instills confidence in the rest of the group", said teammate Kristi Toliver, who scored 20 points and was one of three other Mystics to score in double figures. CT cut the Mystics' lead to 10 with three minutes to go in the fourth, but weren't able to pull any closer.

3-point shooting was the big difference in this one, as the Mystics shot 16-for-27 (59.3%) from beyond the arc while the Sun shot just 5-for-20 (25.0%). There were a few scary moments for her Sunday. When she came out of Sunday's game, she went to the locker room to stretch and stay warm, rather than sit on the bench.

The Sun ran plays against their scout team, shot free throws, showed off with a spirited half-court shooting display and concluded when coach Curt Miller - celebrating his 51st birthday Saturday - ran through a tunnel of players while everyone laughed. The Mystics finished 16 of 27 from beyond the arc.

Jonquel Jones converted a 3-point play to open the third quarter cut the lead to one, but that was as close as CT would get.

"When the ball was up, they just didn't care if they were getting a rebound or not, they were making sure they were hitting me, keeping me off the offensive glass, " Jones said. CT managed to get two back before the end of the third, going into the final 10 minutes down 11. The Sun trailed 43-39 at halftime. That aspect showed as the Mystics got off to a terrific start, opening up a 32-17 lead after the first quarter. Ogwumike averaged 16.1 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game. If the Mystics perform as they did in Game 3, they will likely be raising the trophy in CT. That team was led by current Mystics coach Mike Thibault, who spent 10 years in Uncasville before being fired in 2012.
