Witness in ex-Dallas officer's murder trial reportedly shot and killed

Attorney for Botham Jean’s Family: Neighbor Who Testified Against Amber Guyger Shot and Killed in Dallas

Former Dallas police officer, Amber Guyger is now a convicted murderer.

According to The Dallas Morning News, Brown was gunned down about 10.30 pm. Brown says he lived directly across the hall from Jean.

"Joshua Brown, the next door neighbor of #BothamJean was killed last night after being shot several times by an unknown assailant", Merritt wrote on Instagram on Saturday. Witnesses say they heard gunshots then saw a silver sedan speed out of the apartment complex parking lot.

Meanwhile, Lee Merritt, the attorney for Botham Jean's family, revealed that Brown was anxious that gun violence might also end his own life. He died from his injuries at a hospital.

'He said it could have been him' Brown said during his testimony he was originally from Jacksonville, Florida and moved to Texas in 2008.

"He said it could have been him", Merritt said.

The slaying is the latest in a series of dramatic developments that have been associated with the Amber Guyger murder trial.

Police do not have a suspect in custody for Brown's death, and no additional information about the shooting has been released at this time.

"Brown lived in constant fear that he could be the next victim of gun violence, either state sanctioned or otherwise", he wrote.

On the night of September 6, 2018, Brown was in the hallway on the fourth floor of the Cedars apartment building, where he and Jean lived, when he heard what he thought sounded like "two people meeting by surprise".

The 28-year-old Brown testified in Guyger's trial about the night that Jean was killed. The gunshots followed "right after", he said.

Soon after, from his apartment balcony, Brown said he saw Guyger come out to the hallway from Jean's apartment on the phone. She was "crying, explaining what happened, what she thought happened, saying she came in to the wrong apartment", he said.

During testimony, Brown broke down and wiped away tears with his T-shirt.

Lee Merritt, the attorney for Botham Jean's family, later confirmed the news on Twitter and in a separate Facebook post.

"That 10 years in prison is 10 years for her reflection and for her to change her life, but there is much more to be done by the city of Dallas", Jean's mother, Allison, said.

The unarmed Jean was in his own apartment when Guyger, claiming that she believed that his apartment was hers and he was a burglar, shot him.
