Trump says to increase U.S. sanctions on Iran

Saudi Arabia's military displays what it says is wreckage from drones and cruise missiles used to attack Aramco oil facilities.

January 2019 - the Houthis successfully deployed a drone to assassinate officers of the Saudi-led coalition, killing five and wounding at least 20 military personnel at Yemen's Al Anad airbase.

USA officials had quickly pointed to Iran as being behind the strikes - something Tehran has vehemently denied.

Saudi Arabia's defence ministry today presented Iranian weapons at a press conference in a bid to prove Iranian involvement. He accused Iran of working with its Houthi allies to generate a "false narrative" around the strike on two oil facilities.

"The attack was launched from the north and was unquestionably sponsored by Iran", al-Malki told journalists. "We call on all nations to publicly and unequivocally condemn Iran's attacks". "It was on their soil".

On Sunday evening, Trump tweeted that the United States was "locked and loaded" to respond to the attack.

Abe is expected to meet both U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, set to be held later this month, in an attempt to alleviate tensions between the two countries. On Wednesday, Iranian Defense Minister Brig. "It's easy to accuse someone without providing any proof".

Saturday's attack exposed the vulnerability of Saudi Arabia's oil infrastructure and threw down a gauntlet to the United States, which wants to curb Iran's influence in the region.

Also, the Houthis are not known to have the capability to build cruise missiles locally. On Monday, Pentagon officials were ordered to plan potential responses to the attack, administration officials and sources familiar with their thinking tell CNN.

The attack, which severely reduced Saudi Arabia's oil output was claimed by the Houthi rebel group in Yemen, an Iranian-backed force that is battling a Saudi-backed coalition for control of the country.

Asked whether Paris considered the Saudi and USA analysis that Iran was behind the attack to be credible, the spokesperson responded: "We share the desire to carefully establish the facts before making any reaction".

He was also urged by Britain's leader Boris Johnson to form a "collective response" and "continue working with global partners".

Mr Malki said the missiles had all struck from a northerly direction, showing video of one strike on Abqaiq, along with maps and photographs of the damage. Riyadh has already said preliminary results showed the attack did not come from Yemen.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran looks for friendly ties with its southern neighbors in the same way that it has friendly, brotherly and cordial relations with all neighbors in the north, east and west", he said.

"The idea that impoverished, war-torn Yemen would be able to develop a cruise missile without any outside assistance seems far-fetched", wrote Fabian Hinz, a researcher at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California.

And Adam Rawnsley, a reporter with The Daily Beast who closely tracks drone technology, quickly identified the delta-wing drones arrayed at the news conference as being Iranian in origin.

Thus, regardless of the actor behind the recent air attacks, the vulnerability of Saudi Arabia's oil infrastructure has been demonstrated to Riyadh and the world. A Saudi official also said plans for the listing of the country's oil giant, Aramco, would continue "as is". Since the latest attacks have affected the oil market, maybe now they will act.
