US, Poland Ink 5G Security Agreement in Shadow of Anti-Huawei Campaign

US and Poland sign agreement to cooperate on ...

"America never forgot about the free and independent Polish nation and will never do", said the USA vice president, Mike Pence, during his commemorative speech, adding that the United States will also continue to support the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

"With its efforts to meddle in elections across Europe and around the world now is the time for us to remain vigilant about the intentions and the actions being taken by Russia", Pence said.

US President Donald Trump had planned to attend the war commemorations but cancelled at the last minute so that he could monitor Hurricane Dorian.

WARSAW, Sept 3 ― The United States and Poland believe suppliers of 5G network equipment should be rigorously evaluated for foreign government control, a joint declaration signed yesterday said, as Washington pressures allies to exclude China from 5G networks.

Polish President Andrzej Duda for his part denounced Nazi Germany's attack on Poland, calling it "an act of barbarity" and "a war crime" but also hailed post-war reconciliation.

The Trump Administration - which has warned companies that if they use the products made in China, it will jeopardize US willingness to share intelligence - has thus far struggled to convince European nations to get on board with its Huawei ban, though the company for years has been effectively prohibited from selling its equipment to American mobile phone-service providers.

The document stresses the significance of protecting the 5G network against interference or manipulation as well as ensuring privacy and individual freedoms of the citizens of Poland, the United States and other countries.

The agreement endorses the principles developed by cybersecurity officials from dozens of countries at a summit in Prague earlier this year to counter threats and ensure the safety of next-generation mobile networks. Huawei has denied the allegation.

During a visit to Sweden last week, Morawiecki said decisions were being taken that would make Swedish networking and telecommunications company Ericsson invest in 5G development in Poland.

Chinese telecoms giant Huawei Technologies Co Ltd has denied U.S. accusations that its equipment provides back doors for Beijing's intelligence agencies. But the timing was notable, coming near the start of Pence's trip across Europe, which is being closely watched by longtime US allies for the Trump administration's position on Russian Federation.
