Joaquin Phoenix wanted 'unidentifiable' Joker

Much like the trailer of the film, "Joker" as a movie has also left people captivated to an extent that it received an eight-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival (VFF).

Phoenix, as well as director Todd Phillips, drew praise for the work.

"He's so hard to define and you don't really want to define him", he said, claiming she decided not to attribute a specific mental health issue his character.

It was reported by Todd Malm earlier this week, that Joaquin and Mr. Todd Phillips considered the movie as their very own film, and they were going to make it in their own way, without referring to other movies or creations.

But David Ehrlich of Indiewire said that while the film was "exciting" but raised fears that the sumptuous, sympathetic portrayal of the descent into violence for a mass-market was "incendiary".

While Marvel films have absolutely soared to great heights, filmmakers just can't seem to get it right when it comes to adapting DC comics into movies (barring The Dark Knight and Wonder Woman, of course). The diary was supposed to belong to Arthur Fleck, the Joker in the movie. "There was a lot of fear, yeah, but I always say there's motivating fear and debilitating fear. It's a part of him that is trying to emerge". But I love this movie.

"I didn't think that I could do it, I kind of practised alone but I asked Todd to come over to audition my laugh".

However, with Joker intent on doing its own thing and not sticking to the established rules of the genre, it's bound to ruffle a few feathers and already, we know that it'll be making at least one major change to the Clown Prince of Crime's origins.

But he said the dramatic weight loss he needed to play the role was his biggest challenge.

Joaquin Phoenix has revealed that he "started to go mad" while preparing to take on the titular role of the Gotham City super-villain in the upcoming Joker movie.

Fleck does not want "the world to burn", he said.
