Seahawks QB Russell Wilson reacts to Seattle trading for Jadeveon Clowney

Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa throws from the pocket Saturday against Duke

The Seahawks were both the team best positioned to trade for Jadeveon Clowney and the one that needed him most. Later, it has been reported that Clowney parted ways with his management Bus Cook Sports that might have contributed to why he is still unsigned with about a month left before season 2019 begins. Clowney has been selected to the last three Pro Bowls and joins a Seahawks defense that already features five-time Pro Bowl selection (2014-18), Bobby Wagner.

In March, the Texans placed a franchise tag on Clowney, but he has yet to sign his one-year, $15.9 million tender and reportedly can not be traded until he reports to training camp and does so. Since he reportedly wants to be traded to the Seahawks or the Eagles, he'd presumably be inclined to accept the one-year offer if it's a precursor to being shipped to Seattle. As he's yet to report to training camp and sign his franchise tender, he basically holds all the leverage in a potential trade.

Clowney chose not to sign his franchise tender this offseason, which is worth $15.967 million for the 2019 season. Waited too long to trade him so his value plummets because no one is allowed to sign him to an extension.

On paper, the Eagles arguably have one of the best overall teams in the National Football League, and one can only imagine what the 2019 season will have in store for the defensive unit when looking at all of the potential. The Texans wanted to trade him to Miami, but he reportedly did not want to play for the Dolphins and instead preferred Seattle or Philadelphia. He's posted 29 sacks, 64 tackles for loss and 67 quarterback hits in his career. Clowney has not been at the facility with the team for any activities, mandatory or otherwise, this entire offseason. All players involved must pass physicals before the deal is final. Two years ago, Seattle landed Sheldon Richardson from the New York Jets for a second-round pick and wide receiver Jermaine Kearse. He drafted for the team and made all their free-agent moves.

Clowney notched 47 tackles and three fumble recoveries in 2018.
