King Blasts Trump For Diverting Disaster Funds For Border Wall

Donald Trump Willing to Break Laws to Get Border Wall Built Before Election Day

Trump, the Post reports, is doing everything he possibly can to get that border wall built - even going so far as to promise his aides that he'll "pardon" them if they break a few pesky laws in the larger effort to keep Americans safe and address the humanitarian crisis caused by illegal immigration.

DHS is now replacing 124 miles of fencing with new wall in the El Paso, El Centro and Tucson sectors. As one high-level source told the Post, "He said people expected him to build a wall, and it had to be done by the election".

"Given the headwinds the president has been pushing against, I think they have made some useful progress", Krikorian said.

"When aides have suggested that some orders are illegal or unworkable", the Post wrote, "Trump has suggested he would pardon the officials if they just goa head". This reporting from the Post was based on the testimony of "officials who attended the meetings" at the White House.

Trump is also micromanaging the construction of the wall and the updates of the existing fence in some odd ways.

Editor's note: President Trump says via Twitter that this is fake news.

King says if that report in the Washington Post is true, it represents an outrageous abuse of presidential authority.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has released drone video that shows miles of a "new border wall system" on Arizona's porous boundary with Mexico.

One unnamed official said the president was joking when he suggested pardons. And second, Trump and his top aides are fully aware they are breaking the law: hence the need to reassure his subordinates that he will protect them against the legal repercussions that would otherwise inevitably follow.

There are a lot of impediments to getting a wall built along the U.S. -Mexico border, including environmental laws and the fact that on the U.S. side of the border a lot of land is privately owned.

Numerous president's other ideas, outlined by the Post and administration officials, seem geared toward winning votes and instilling fear than practicality.

Trump told aides he wants spike tips atop the wall, according to the report. Such action by a president or senator would in the past have been considered a criminally corrupt practice, but it is par for the course in the Trump administration. Perhaps House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) will add this latest conduct to his impeachment investigation.

Trump at times has seemingly acknowledged that what's taken shape isn't the extended mileage of barriers that his supporters and critics envisioned. The funds will be pulled from Defense Department projects in 26 states, according to administration officials who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the matter.
