SL proposes short ODI tour instead of Test

Sri Lanka will play three ODIs in Karachi and three T20 Is in Lahore

Pakistan have not hosted an worldwide Test since terrorists attacked the bus of the Sri Lankan cricket team while they were on their way to Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium.

As per the original programme, Pakistan was set to host the Lankans for a couple of World Championship Tests in October before Lanka returns for three ODIs and three T20Is in December.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is now desperate to organise the Test match in Pakistan. Eight years later, the Sri Lankans returned to Pakistan for a Twenty20 global in Lahore in October 2017. Three T20Is will take place at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium on October 5,7 and 9.

A world XI side consisting of high profile players like Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla also played a T20I series against Pakistan.

"The PCB is pleased with the outcome of its discussions with Sri Lanka Cricket, which has supported Pakistan in its efforts and endeavors for the complete revival of worldwide cricket".

Sri Lanka will return to Pakistan after a almost two-year absence for three short-form cricket games later this year, the sports minister said on Thursday.

The ICC Chairman called on President Sirisena at the President's House yesterday (23) afternoon and assured that he would provide all necessary assistance to advance the sport of cricket in Sri Lanka.

The dates and the venue for the two Tests were not announced, but Sri Lanka's Sports minister Harin Fernando told reporters in Colombo Thursday that the Tests will not be in Pakistan. Lahore will host three T20Is on 5, 7 and 9 October after which the visitors will fly home on 10 October.

Recently, Sri Lanka's security team toured Pakistan and gave a positive report to the concerned authorities of their country. The PCB was confident that the Sri Lankan Cricket Board would send the team to Pakistan to play the Test match.

Parliamentarian Thilanga Sumathipala and Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva were also present at the meeting. "If there had been any doubts, the SLC would not have gone ahead with this arrangement", Sri Lanka Cricket chairman Shammi Silva was quoted as saying in the release.

On 21 April 2019, Easter Sunday, there were several bomb attacks in churches and hotels all across Sri Lanka, with over 250 people killed and more than 500 injured.
