'GMA' host Lara Spencer apologizes for Prince George ballet joke

Prince George and Lara Spencer

American actor George Takei tweeted: "Lara Spencer on GMA mocked a 6-year old Prince George of the United Kingdom for taking ballet class".

Courtney Escoyne, a longtime contributor to 'Dance Magazine, ' in a lengthy article published Friday, aggregated Instagram and other social media posts expressing universal condemnation of Spencer's remarks by prominent members of the dance community as well as numerous award winning dance companies.

"Prince William said, 'George absolutely loves ballet.' I have news for you, William".

Lara Spencer is apologizing after receiving backlash for comments she made about Prince George. I have news for you Prince William, we will see how long that takes, "she continues, while a photo of a broad-smiling Prince George can be seen".

This comment elicited laughter from both Spencer and the audience. Dance on Prince George!

In a segment aired Thursday on the ABC News morning chat show 'Good Morning America, ' anchor Lara Spencer's delivery of a bit of news concerning HRH Prince George's school curriculum for the upcoming year, mocked male dancers.

"I have so many male dancers that I have trained that have fantastic careers", she went on to say.

I saw a clip from @goodmorningamerica this morning and I was pretty surprised by the tone of some comments towards dance. While many Baby Boomers will remember growing up learning core subjects like maths, English and science, many schools now offer kids anything from general studies and creative art classes through to different forms of exercise, dance and cooking to broaden their interests from a young age.

"I understand that comments like the one made here on television were probably light-hearted and just a little banter".

But the thing is, I doubt that Spencer cares. "It's 2019. I thought this stuff was over". "Just think about the young boys who may have seen this and could quit their passion at her expense".

"My honest apologies for an insensitive comment I made in pop news yesterday", she wrote alongside a photo of a field of flowers.

A US TV presenter has been slammed for cruelly mocking Prince George, after it emerged he is set to attend weekly ballet lessons. "I fully get we would also aloof all be free to pursue our passions".

The reaction to Spencer's comment was swift. "Depart climb your mountain-and worship every minute of it".
