Crowe slams 'joke' seating at USA-Australia basketball

Kemba Walker

The Americans arrived in Australia carrying the tag of one of the worst-ever US teams, with global National Basketball Association names such as LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Steph Curry skipping the exhibition games and FIBA World Cup in China.

Walker and Mitchell were natural choices for the captaincy, as they are the only two players to have started both exhibition games that Team USA has played.

"It's a rip-off that people paid hundreds of dollars for a plastic chair, a blocked view and teams that didn't feature the superstars promised".

On Friday, Australia's main consumer agency said it investigating whether basketball fans were misled by promoters about seating and the expected NBA players at the game. "Jokes on me", the Hollywood star tweeted.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) announced last week that it was in talks with the promoter TEG Live.

"We have guys that are just starting to play with each other", said USA guard Donovan Mitchell, who had 13 points.

Actor Russell Crowe was among spectators left cold by the views of the raised court at the venue, which is mostly used for top flight Australian Rules football matches. "Our transition defence was poor, and they got three 3s in a row and that's what happened down the stretch in the second quarter", he said. I kept looking behind because I knew I was going to fall off stage.

Despite the huge crowd, Australian media reported that some fans were issued refunds because they bought tickets based on promotional materials depicting Stephen Curry and LeBron James - who were part of the USA player pool when the deal was struck a year ago to play the games.

"But I think it was a credit to Basketball Australia that they took the risk to some degree".

This is a point of pride for Celtics fans, and Walker and Smart appear to be two excellent choices as captains of this young Team USA roster.

"It was an incredible atmosphere", Tatum said, "unique experience".

"My worry here is we're basically becoming a bit of a nation of whingers".

The lack of star power showed, particularly in the first half when the Boomers troubled the USA with their stiff defence, which delighted the record Australian basketball crowd of 51,218.

With only two current All-Stars in Kemba Walker and Khris Middleton, the US were still a class above on the drop-in floor. Myles Turner had a double double with 15 points and 14 rebounds.
