DeMarcus Cousins Possible Ligament Tear

OAKLAND CALIFORNIA- JUNE 13 De Marcus Cousins #0 of the Golden State Warriors reacts against the Toronto Raptors in the second half during Game Six of the 2019 NBA Finals at ORACLE Arena

Injury-nagged Los Angeles Lakers center DeMarcus Cousins could miss the entire 2019-20 National Basketball Association season with a torn left knee ligament, the team confirmed Thursday.

DeMarcus Cousins #0 of the Golden State Warriors stands for the National Anthem before their game against the Denver Nuggets at ORACLE Arena on April 02, 2019 in Oakland, California.

Cousins' visit to team physicians in Los Angeles on Thursday confirmed the diagnosis, which constitutes a third serious leg injury in the past year and a half.

Cousins, 29, was working out in Las Vegas on Monday when he had to leave the court.

Draymond Green, though, believes Cousins can overcome this latest setback because the All-Star center made it out of Mobile, Alabama - one of the toughest places to grow up in America. He signed with the Lakers on another one-year deal, this time for $3.5 million.

"I'm devastated for DeMarcus, I read it on the way to practice", Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said following practice.

A big year could have set Cousins up for a significant contract next summer.

The Lakers, even without Cousins, still figure to have more than enough talent to end a stretch of six consecutive seasons without a playoff berth, by far the longest such run in franchise history.

There is no word on when Cousins will undergo surgery on his left left knee, and the recovery time is usually a minimum of nine months, which rules him out for most if not all of the upcoming season.

But without Cousins, there is a bit of a void on the Lakers' roster as far as center. It's super-unfortunate for a guy like DeMarcus.
