El Paso Walmart Gunner Says He Was Targeting "Mexicans" During Open Fire

The 21-year-old shooting suspect Patrick Crusius

A police affidavit released Friday said the suspect, Patrick Crusius, confessed to the shooting after getting out of his vehicle and surrendering to police, saying, "I'm the shooter".

"The defendant stated his target were Mexicans", Garcia wrote.

More than 100 people marched through El Paso, Texas on Saturday denouncing racism and calling for stronger gun laws.

The suspected gunman, 21-year-old Patrick Crusius, of Allen, Texas, has been booked on capital murder charges.

The shooter told police that he drove more than 10 hours from his home in Allen, Texas, near Dallas, with an assault rifle and a large quantity of ammunition.

Crusius is accused of shooting and killing 22 people and wounding two dozen more on Saturday, shortly after a manifesto appeared online explaining his motivation and decrying a "Hispanic invasion" of the United States.

Authorities believe that shortly before the attack, Crusius posted a racist screed online that railed against an influx of Hispanics into the U.S. The document parrots some of President Donald Trump's divisive rhetoric about immigration, but the writer said his views predate Trump's rise and that any attempt to blame the president for his actions was "fake news".

Eight of the 22 fatalities were Mexican nationals and Mexico's Foreign Secretary, Marcelo Ebrard, has raised the possibility of seeking Crusius' extradition to face charges south of the border.

A damaged tanker truck exploded in eastern Tanzania as people were trying to siphon fuel yesterday, killing at least 62 in one of the worst incidents of its kind in the East African country.

Jessica Coca Garcia, who was shot in the legs last Saturday and whose husband also was wounded in the Walmart attack, struggled to rise from a wheelchair to speak to the crowd. Less than 24 hours later, nine people were killed and 27 injured, after a gunman opened fire on the streets of a popular nightlife area in Dayton.

Meanwhile, several victims of the El Paso attack and another mass shooting which took place in OH less than 24 hours later and left nine people dead were being laid to rest. However, he said he also assured the group that its gun rights views would be "fully represented and respected".
