Afton Williamson quits 'The Rookie' over alleged sexual harassment, racism

Afton Williamson Alleges Racism, Bullying, and Sexual Harassment on The Rookie Set

Throughout the filming of the pilot, I experienced Racial Discrimination/Racially Charged inappropriate comments from the hair department and bullying from Executive Producers.

"I am frustrated, I don't have a lot of answers; I wish I had more". "We will make a determination based on what we find out", she said, adding that the conclusions from the investigation "will help guide us how to handle situations like that in the future, if in fact there has been any sort of communication breakdown".

She added, "I can trust the investigation because...the production company hired an independent third party to do the investigation".

In the post, Williamson outlined claims of bullying and harassment against the show's hair department, an unnamed series guest star, and executive producers.

When The Rookie returns to ABC this fall for Season 2, actress Afton Williamson will no longer be a part of the action, and the actress is now ready to talk about the reasons she walked away from the crime drama.

Williamson says that she made repeated complaints to series creator and showrunner, Alexi Hawley, but says he never carried her allegations to Human Resources.

A statement issued by production studio eOne on Sunday evening said, "We take claims of this nature very seriously". Head was sacked ONLY after the sexual assault and NOT for an entire year of outward racism/racially charged language and bullying behavior in and out of the Hair and Makeup trailer. In a message posted to Instagram on August 4, the actress alleged that starting with the pilot shoot in spring 2018 and throughout all of Season 1, she "experienced racial discrimination/racially charged inappropriate comments from the hair department", as well as sexual harassment from an unnamed recurring guest star. "In late June, eOne made us aware and informed us that they launched an investigation that is ongoing", a spokesperson for ABC told Variety. She also stated that the head of the hair department was only fired after she reported the sexual assault "and NOT [sic] for an entire year of outward racism/racially charged language and bullying behavior in and out of the Hair and Makeup trailer". "I was also asked to film with him the very next day as a courtesy to the script, even though we had not begun filming the episode yet".

Williamson said she finally stormed off the set and quit after she allegedly endured racism and sexual misconduct that went ignored by top brass.

A rep for Entertainment One could not immediately be reached for comment. The actress said, although she had alerted the showrunner, her claims were reportedly not addressed. "I learned alongside my colleagues at the end of June that there were allegations and that an investigation had been launched by eOne".
