Thorbjorn Olesen Arrested After Alleged Sexual Assault on Flight

Thorbjorn Olesen of Denmark tees off at BMW International Open

Danish golf star Thorbjorn Olesen was arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a passenger during a first-class flight from the United States to London, British media reported Thursday (Aug 1).

Olesen, who was travelling with Ian Poulter at the time in the first class cabin, is accused of molesting a woman and urinating in the aisle, as well as failing to comply with the orders of cabin crew.

Poulter's agent told the Independent that the golfer was unaware of Olesen's behavior until police arrived at the landing gate to arrest his teammate.

The Sun and The Independent cited Metropolitan Police as saying a 29-year-old was arrested when the British Airways flight landed Monday at Heathrow.

Olesen allegedly became verbally abusive towards other passengers and the flight crew. Olesen has five European Tour victories in his career, but he has never won a PGA Tour event.

Both had just competed in the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in Memphis last week, according to the U.K. Sun.

The 29-year-old Danish golfer, now ranked 62 in the world, was on a British Airways flight from Memphis to Heathrow on Monday when he allegedly became drunk and abusive, according to multiple reports.

He finished in 27th place and posted a disappointed message on Twitter on Sunday.

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Poulter and Olesen for comment.

A spokesman said: "He was taken into custody and subsequently released under investigation".

In a statement to PEOPLE, British Airways said, "Our customers and crews deserve to enjoy their flights, and not to suffer any form of abuse".

'This sort of behaviour will not be tolerated, and the appropriate action will always be taken'. He turned professional in 2008 and had his best finish at the 2013 Masters (sixth).
