Can water survive in the moon's deep, dark craters? Maybe not

There may be far more water on the Moon than previously thought

This mission makes India 4th country after Russia, USA, and China for making a soft landing on the surface of the moon.

So as the country blasts into space, here are three key facts about its plans. The landing on the moon's south polar region is expected on September 6 this year. The spacecraft will be the first Indian expedition to attempt a soft landing on the lunar surface. ISRO says the spacecraft is in "good health" and moving in the "right direction", as the Times of India reports.

In a giant leap for the country's ambitious low-priced space programme, ISRO has undertaken the most complex and its prestigious mission ever aimed at landing the rover on the moon.

The ambitious project of Chandrayaan-2 was supposed to launch on July 15, but it was abandoned due to a "technical glitch".

Having this insight before returning humans to the moon may mean that they don't have to visit these harsh craters as a water source and could still rely on parts of the lunar south pole that are illuminated by sunlight. Priyanka also celebrated the woman power and mentioned that present times are all about females and that, she is inspired by the women scientists who helped in the successful launch of ISRO's Chandrayaan 2.

Meteoroids also continuously hit the moon's surface, further disturbing the tiny frost and soil particles. The global star got to know about the female scientists behind Chandrayaan 2 and applauded their work.

The Hyderabad unit has also designed, developed, manufactured and assembled the 3-Axis CNC vertical-facing mill for supply to ISRO's Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota (SDSC SHARJ), for machining of the solid rocket motors. We are proud that we have a reliable organisation in our land.

The market for commercial space launches is crowded and competitive with Russia's Soyuz and Vega launchers competing with those of the European Space Agency and the reusable rockets flown by USA entrepreneur Elon Musk's SpaceX corporation.

India has launched nearly 270 satellites from 32 countries using its PSLV rocketsince the first version of the launcher entered service in 1993. But some have questioned the amount being spent by nations like India on space exploration when they have pressing social issues at home. Instead, it will perform a series of ever-widening Earth orbits until it's far enough away to be captured by the Moon's gravity. The UN also maintains a Register of Objects Launched into Outer Space.
