Overwatch Releases Their Newest Hero - The Eccentric Astrophysicist Sigma

New Overwatch Hero Sigma Released To PTR Backstory Gameplay And Abilities Revealed

The new Overwatch hero Sigma, is an astrophysicist turned walking weapon in his quest to become smarter and stronger.

Sigma can propel a floating barrier - not all that unlike Symmetra's old barrier before her rework previous year - that can be recalled not that unlike Reinhardt's own barrier. In this preview, we take a look at the origins of Sigma and what his playstyle will bring to an always-evolving meta, and whether or not his presence in the game will mark a new era overall.

For starters, and perhaps more obvious, is the fact that Sigma never touches the ground. They aren't defenseless though, and Sigma has a very impressive looking arsenal that will be on full display.

He then jumps towards the point, using his ultimate ability, Gravitic Flux, which causes him to take flight and allows him to raise enemies in a targeted area into the air, before slamming them down for damage.

Hyper Spheres: That launches two gravitic charges that implode after a short charge, dealing AOE damage. Turning his attention back to the low ground, Seagull fires off a well-placed Accretion - a much larger projectile that knocks down enemies as well as dealing damage - to eliminate the enemy Sigma, before helping finish off the resurrected Pharah once again.

Sigma the scientist will be the 31st hero to enter the Overwatch pantheon, following support hero Baptiste and damage-dealer Ashe.

Oh, and don't forget that you can play Sigma right now at Overwatch's Public Test servers. Other characters certainly have the ability to control a tight space in disruptive ways, but the size and power of Sigma's ult is uniquely useful in this situation.

And just like Reinhardt, the shield won't regenerate and fix until it's been recalled.

Like D.Va's Defense Matrix, Kinetic Grasp is just as it sounds, it allows Sigma to grasp projectiles, converting them into shields, allowing Sigma to buff himself temporarily. It goes on a 15-second cooldown after three seconds, though, so don't use it unless it will get a lot of value.

Overwatch is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In the video above, you can see Sigma stand next to other Talon members Moira, Sombra, Reaper, Doomfist, and Widowmaker.
