Huawei secretly helped North Korea build, maintain wireless network

Blockbuster report claims Huawei sold American technology to North Korea

US President Donald Trump meets with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the demilitarised zone on June 30.

More recently it seemed like President Trump might be letting up on Huawei.

Trump has put Huawei on its so-called entity list, which meant USA companies needed a license to supply U.S. technology to the Chinese firm. Any company providing Panda with a minimum of 10% US-made kit would be in violation of the ban.

Donald Trump declared a national emergency in May 2019 in a move created to prevent Chinese tech companies from building the country's 5G networks.

The Post reports that the Commerce Department opened a probe into Huawei's North Korean dealings in 2016. Countries sanctioned by the U.S. such as North Korea, Iran, and Syria, are referred to using code.

The Czech National Cyber and Information Security Agency concluded a year ago that Huawei's software and hardware posed a threat to state security.

While with regards to the Czech media network's claims, Huawei said that it works in compliance with the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) rules, which are created to protect the privacy of European Union citizens.

The U.S. Commerce Department, which also did not immediately respond to a request for comment, has investigated possible links between Huawei and North Korea since 2016 but has not publicly connected the two, the Post said.

It's an interesting story. but really, I think in terms of Huawei news, people are more interested in finding out whether the company's long association with Android will continue post August 19 when the current exemptions to the US DOC Entity List expire.

The latest revelation prompted two U.S. senators, Chris Van Hollen and Tom Cotton, to repeat their earlier warnings about Huawei. In addition, China's national security laws require companies to cooperate with intelligence services when asked.

But in addition to blacklisting the firm over fears its technology could be coopted by the Chinese government for surveillance purposes, the pushing other nations to also ban the telecom provider.

The CEOs of Intel Corp and Broadcom Inc, along with executives from Google and Micron Technology Inc, are due to attend the meeting presided over by White House Economic Advisor Larry Kudlow, Reuters reported. Huawei is not supposed to supply equipment to North Korea for several reasons.

A former employee leaked sensitive internal documents to The Washington Post, allegedly revealing a number of projects related to building out 3G in the hermit state. Many American firms have announced they would be discontinuing business with Huawei.
