Manny Pacquiao claims WBA welterweight crown over Keith Thurman

Manny Pacquiao vs Keith Thurman Boxing Match

Manny Pacquiao has become the WBA Super champion at the age of 40 - outpointing previously undefeated welterweight Keith Thurman in a split decision in Las Vegas.

- In the video at the top of the page, you can see not only Manny Pacquiao's locker room after his win over Keith Thurman but also the post-fight press conference.

Pacquiao said he planned to be ringside for the welterweight world unification fight between Errol Spence Jr and Shawn Porter in Los Angeles in September.

In the third round, Pacquiao, boxing's only eight-division world champion, nailed Thurman with a lead right to the face.

Pacquiao, who improved to 62-7-2 with 39 knockouts, was gracious in victory.

Although the bloodied Thurman rallied in the later rounds to narrow Pacquiao's lead, the judges scored it in the Filipino's favor.

"I knew it was too close", Thurman said.

Pacquiao said he likely will return to the ring next year.

"The best way Congress and the executive branch can now honor not just Manny Pacquiao, but all those boxers who honor him, is to enact into law and implement effectively the Philippine Boxing Commission Act", he added.

"It was slightly in the solar plexus and slight under the ribs", Thurman said of one of the punches that made him bend over in pain.

Manny Pacquiao will counter with speed, experience and desire.

It was subsequently revealed that Pacquiao fought with a torn rotator cuff. He's a good boxer, and he's strong.

Pacquiao went from early fight week underdog to fight night favorite with the Vegas sportsbooks as floods of money came in for the Filipino star. Each landed solid shots in the first round, but it was Pacquiao with a clean straight hand that connected flush and knocked Thurman down in the waning seconds of the round to elicit a massive cheer from the crowd.

To that end, could a rematch with Floyd Mayweather be on the cards?

"It was a blessing and a lesson".

Thurman had been eager to retire Pacquiao, but he couldn't hurt the ageless wonder.

But even then, his presence kept the hope of a rematch with Pacquiao before they both head off to the sunset together.
