The Internet Doesn't Know What to Do With the New Cats Trailer

Everyone is roasting the Cats trailer

While the trailer has evoked mixed reactions from fans of the original, the movie in itself looks beautifully shot and choreographed.

Man they weren't kidding about the "digital fur technology". The first trailer has dropped and the internet has opinions - from "unsettling" to "nightmarish".

Billboard reports that the trailer showcases most of the cast, including Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Jason Derulo, Rebel Wilson, Francesca Hayward, Judi Dench, Idris Elba, all done up in their feline costumes. The two looked like total pros during the rehearsal - we know they'll knock it out of the park once we see the full movie, for sure! But Tom Hooper's new movie full of CGI'd actors rendered into creepy cat form is something else.

Many didn't realize Hayward was a person of color at all based on the trailer, and stated as such in a pretty straightforward fashion. Swift, who plays the role of Bombalurina, is seen as a ginger cat pouring catnip out of a diamond-encrusted bottle all while floating on a crescent moon.

During her Reputation tour past year, Taylor Swift spoke of the project, saying: "This musical is timeless".

The unlikely stage musical, based on poems by T.S. Eliot, opened in 1981 and became one of the longest running shows on both Broadway and in London.

The set includes giant props such as chairs and bicycles which have been scaled up so the actors appear cat-sized.

Cats is directed by Tom Hooper and is scheduled to release on December 20, 2019. They don't look right, they don't feel right, and if you can't look at any of the characters without feeling weirded out, there's going to be serious problems. Claw at it like a million, computer-enhanced cat people with their pixellated claws.
