Chris Paul to start season with Thunder as trade talks stall

Chris Paul Thunder

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, discussions surrounding a potential Paul trade "are parked" and there is an "increasing expectation" the 34-year-old point guard will start next season in Oklahoma City.

While both parties were interested in a trade from OKC, Wojnarowski notes that nothing satisfactory has materialized and both sides recognize the benefits of Paul playing the year with the Thunder. The report adds that Oklahoma City believes trade talks could improve after December 15 - when players signed this offseason can be included in deals - or after the 2019-20 season. Paul is set to make $38 million this season, and his contract runs through 2022, when he's set to make over $44 million.

The man, who said he was from Virginia, left two voicemails with threats to Thunder general manager Sam Presti and other coaches, KOCO-TV reported Wednesday, citing an Oklahoma City police search warrant.

Let's take a look at three things Russell Westbrook does better than Chris Paul and how those skills can help the Rockets become a better team. They'll have Paul, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Danilo Gallinari, Steven Adams and Dennis Schroder, a good enough core to compete for a playoff spot ... if they were in the East.

A week after George was traded, the Thunder waved goodbye to franchise icon Russell Westbrook, who was traded to the Houston Rockets in exchange for two protected first round picks and Chris Paul.

Paul began his career in OKC with the Hornets.

For now, Oklahoma City doesn't feel a need to surrender draft compensation to unload Paul's contract, sources said. Ideally, they would trade Paul to build even more depth (and youth), instead of trying to build around an aging star.
