Brendan Rodgers hoping Leicester can keep Harry Maguire

Man Utd submit £49.6m bid for attacking star, player offered £100k-a-week contract

Manchester United may finally be able to land their target, English central defender Harry Maguire, who now plays for Leicester City and has had an impressive few seasons with club and country.

United will reportedly have to part ways with more than the £75m Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk in January previous year if they are to sign Maguire.

United are reportedly the only club to have made a serious offer for Maguire this summer, but City could still sweep in for Maguire once they know what the price will be to land the defender from Leicester.

The 26-year-old has been linked all summer long with a move to the Red Devils, with neighbourhood rivals Manchester City also keen to snap up one of England's first choice central defenders. "He's a top-quality player and no one has come near the valuation of the player to tempt the club to sell".

Maguire played 45 minutes in Leicester's 1-0 friendly win at Scunthorpe on Tuesday and manager Rodgers spoke about the situation afterwards.

In further comments published by the Leicester Mercury, Rodgers added, "I respect and understand that if a team like Manchester United or Manchester City are interested".

"The club have been very good".

As much as Spector is a fan of De Light, he believes former Sheffield United star Maguire can be a huge hit at Old Trafford. "I am sure you don't believe every single player that we have been linked with", he said.

He added: "I thought they would potentially be chasing someone like De Ligt but Maguire is a good player and I think he could be good for the club, but only for the right price".

"I've been in this position a number of times and it's never easy but he's taken part in everything and hasn't showed anything other than sheer professionalism".

"Harry is a top-class player. There's obviously been a lot of speculation surrounding him but we're relaxed about it".
