Taika Waititi Is Back for Thor 4, But Akira Is on Hold

Taika Waititi, who successfully took over the Thor franchise with 2017's smash hit Ragnarok, is reportedly set to return for an upcoming fourth Thor-centered movie, according toThe Hollywood Reporter.

Waititi previously directed Thor: Ragnarok, arguably one of the best in the series, and indeed one of the funniest.

It's unclear what WB's next move will be for Akira, but it is clear that they want to have Waititi direct the film as they are hoping he will direct it right after he finishes Thor 4. But his boarding of what would be a fourth installment of the Marvel franchise comes at a cost: Warner Bros.' long-gestating adaptation of Japanese manga Akira.

The deal puts Waititi's other major project, Warner Bros' new Akira film, in a bit of a bind, though.

Plus, at the end of Endgame, Thor had the galaxy at his disposal, so it will be exciting to see what happens next for the God of Thunder.

Rejoice, fellow Asgardians, because Taika Waititi will return as writer and director for Thor 4. He then appoints Valkyrie as the new ruler of New Asgard and joins the Guardians of the Galaxy, who will go on a quest to look for Gamora. But, it's not very likely Thor 4 would come out before that any way.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a big year in 2019 with Captain Marvel, Avengers Endgame and Spider-Man Far From Home all crushing it at the Box Office.

Next up for Waititi is Jojo Rabbit with Scarlett Johansson.

"Eventually, I made short films that did really well and I was forced to become a filmmaker", says Waititi, whose 2004 live-action short Two Cars, One Night garnered a raft of honours, including an Oscar nomination. While "Thicc Thor" received criticism due to the character's body shaming, many fans saw his new figure as welcome representation for different body types in superhero films.
