Iran nuclear deal breaches not yet significant, European Union says

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani inspects nuclear technology on Iran National Nuclear Technology Day in Tehran 9 April 2019

"It seems that there are those in Europe who won't wake up until Iranian nuclear missiles fall on European soil, and then, of course, it will be too late".

Michael Roth, Germany's deputy foreign minister, said as he arrived at a meeting in Brussels on Monday: "We want to uphold our part of the agreement".

Iran has repeatedly threatened to leave the deal unless the remaining parties to the agreement bypass USA sanctions and deliver the promised benefits.

"It was clear for us from the start that America would leave - that's why we told our European counterparts that if America leaves, we will hold you responsible".

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, who is in New York City for meetings at the United Nations, might be said to be under six-block arrest.

She called the USA, the EU's "best partner and ally" but argued that it was up to the group to "try to mitigate the impact of the United States' decision to re-impose sanctions" and "and to compensate for these decisions as far as we can in the market system we are living in".

"Iran's missiles. are absolutely and under no condition negotiable with anyone or any country, period", Alireza Miryousefi, spokesman for the Iranian mission at the United Nations, wrote on Twitter. The U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet also didn't comment, as reported by The Guardian.

"(It) reminds me of the European appeasement of the 1930s", Netanyahu said in a video statement in Hebrew that was posted on Facebook.

The Foreign Office elaborated in a statement, saying: "This was about the enforcement of EU Syria sanctions: action was taken because of where the oil was going - a sanctioned Syrian entity - not because it was from Iran".

Inspectors verified that the country had begun enriching uranium to 4.5% concentration - above the 3.67% limit set by the nuclear deal. "I think the United States is playing with fire", Zarif told NBC News. Anything less than that would be political suicide for Iran's leaders and an invitation for world powers to impose ever more unilateral conditions on Iran's nuclear program.

France, Germany, and the UK-the so-called E3-met on July 14 to discuss the fate of the nuclear deal.

The Trump administration violated the accord and reimposed sanctions on Iran in the fall, prompting Tehran to scale back its own commitments under the deal, Iranian officials said.

"Iran doesn't recognise dual nationality, so for them she is Iranian, which is why consular access has not been permitted", he added.

Fears of direct U.S.

The detention of Fariba Adelkhah, a well-known expert on Iran and Shiite Islam at the prestigious Sciences Po university, risks increasing tension between Paris and Tehran at a critical moment in crisis talks to save the beleagured Iranian nuclear programme. Speaking to the BBC, Mr Zarif spoke of the current economic sanctions on the country while also questioning the influence from country's situated outside of the Middle East. Iran, he said, urges the U.S.to "abandon bullying".

Iran recently raised its uranium enrichment level beyond the limit allowed under the 2015 agreement. "Foreign Minister Zarif, he uses the freedoms of the United States to come here and spread malign propaganda", Pompeo said.
