Silverstone Circuit Secures British Grand Prix Until 2024

Losing Silverstone would be ‘disastrous’ – Horner

In a season of often mundane racing, the one time Lewis Hamilton can hope to grab the attention of home Formula One fans is the British Grand Prix. The pace they had at the last race was great, so I expect this weekend to be closer.

Hamilton has five wins at the race, all scored at Silverstone, matching the tallies of Jim Clark and Alain Prost. This is such a special weekend it needs the focus of the whole country. A lot of people will be switching between channels on Sunday, not sure what to watch.

But the race at the Northamptonshire circuit will begin at 2:10pm - just after the start of the men's singles final at Wimbledon and midway through the final at Lord's, where England may be attempting to win a first ever Cricket World Cup.

"I was struggling with the rear end and went off a few times, but Valtteri seemed much more comfortable in the vehicle, so we are going to dig deep tonight trying to figure out what the issue is and how we can solve it for tomorrow". The 19-year-old took third place from Hamilton through the opening corner of the last round in Austria and hoped the world champion would still be racing when he was in a vehicle able to challenge him.

"Its the first time that we've come off sale on general admission tickets in many, many years". "Lando's progression is incredibly impressive, to be so young and keeping a level head and delivering every weekend against a driver who also has more experience than him". There is excitement and adrenaline going and there are pressures.

Verstappen said: "From my side it was not so good and I didn't find a good balance with the vehicle in FP1 or FP2. I've had some spectacular races here".

"We look forward to five years of stability with our relationship with F1, which is long enough to continue to invest in the development of F1 at Silverstone", he said.

"We're a little unusual in that we don't think it's right for the British Government to use taxpayer's money to directly subsidise Formula One", he said.

But the BRDC chairman called on the Government to invest more in Silverstone to reflect its local and national economic importance - adding the lack of funds has been a source of tension.

It was announced on Wednesday that the British Grand Prix will remain at Silverstone for at least the next five years. The meeting has traditionally taken place in June to take advantage of the summer weather but could be shifted in consideration with the other races that occupy the summer months.
