R. Kelly arrested in Chicago on federal sex trafficking charges

R. Kelly

That case ramped up in May, when prosecutors added what were the most serious charges against Kelly, including aggravated sexual assault. According to Ewing, Kelly's publicist will hold a press conference Friday morning.

This year Cook County prosecutors alleged he met one of his underage victims outside of the courthouse during his child porn trial.

ET has confirmed that the 52-year-old R&B singer was arrested in Chicago on Thursday on federal sex crime charges.

The charges are contained in a 13-count indictment that was filed in the Northern District of IL.

These incidents are alleged to have taken place in locations including Chicago, Connecticut, California and in Brooklyn, where prosecutors filed the sealed charges June 20.

According to CNN, "A five-count indictment against Kelly will be unsealed Friday in the Eastern District of NY". The indictment also alleges they arranged for the girl and her parents to travel overseas prior to his 2002 indictment so they'd be unavailable to law enforcement investigating the case.

The New York Times reported that Kelly was arrested on a 13-count indictment that includes child pornography, obstruction of justice and enticement of a minor. He has been sued by several women who accuse him of having sex with them when they were minors.

Federal authorities arrested R&B singer R. Kelly in Chicago on Thursday while he was walking his dog. Kelly reportedly made the two men force his victims into taking lie-detector tests in order to prove that they've handed over all sex tapes in their possession.

Detectives from the Department of Homeland Security and NY police officers had apparently worked together to make the arrest around 7pm local time Thursday.

The singer, known for such hits as "I Believe I Can Fly" and "Bump N' Grind", spent a weekend in jail on the sex charges before being released on $100,000 bail on February 25. CBS News correspondent Jericka Duncan reports this is the first time Kelly has faced federal criminal charges.

He adamantly denied all allegations again.

For decades, Kelly's name has been involved in sexual assault scandals, even after he was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008.
