The outage across Rogers's and Shaw's voice network, which started in early Sunday afternoon, caused emergency calls to fail.
Telus says its customers began reporting an inability to receive or place voice calls with Freedom Mobile or Rogers customers starting about 2 p.m. Sunday.
At the moment they say there is no estimated time of restoration of service.
"Some customers may still experience intermittent wireless voice service", he said.
Rogers and Telus clients were having trouble making phone calls while other services were affected at Bell.
While the website does not include an estimated time of fix, the company says teams are "working hard to address the interruption as quickly as possible".
Toronto police Const. Katrina Arrogante tells CityNews 9-1-1 calls have also been dropped due to the outage. Dispatchers who attempt to follow up with such calls are being met with a busy signal on the other line, reports CP24.
"We are working diligently to restore services as soon as possible".
The problem is described as nationwide, but it is not clear how many customers have been affected and when the issue will be resolved. Rogers posted a notice about the issue to its online customer-service forum on Sunday. The CRTC, which regulates phone service providers, is planning to make the upgrades - which would support 911 services through voice, photos, videos and text message - mandatory by 2020.
