Royal baby Archie christened in private Windsor Castle ceremony

Wimbledon 2019- Day Four- The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club

On Saturday morning, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, had his christening hours earlier at the Private Chapel in Windsor Castle.

This photo shows Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor with his parents, Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The christening, officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, was a private affair, as all royal christenings have been.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had to move the christening of their newborn son because it apparently clashed with Queen Elizabeth's social calendar. "They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment", they captioned their post on Instagram Saturday.

A full list of the 25 guests has not been made public, but Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale - the sisters of Prince Harry's mother, the late Diana, Princess of Wales - were pictured in an official photograph taken at the christening.

Another black and white portrait, also released by Harry and Meghan to their nine million followers on Instagram, was of the new parents with Archie in the Rose Garden.

For his special day, Archie wore a handmade replica of the Royal Christening Robe that was originally commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1841. The new mother sat on a green couch with husband Prince Harry, 34, while their son Archie sat on Meghan's lap in the official photo released after the baptism on July 6.

Archie has made his full debut to the world on his christening day.

"Charles and I worked so hard to ensure both boys receive equal amounts of our time and love; others in the family seem to concentrate on William", she reportedly said at the time.

Royal fan Anne Daley, who brought a home-baked cake to Windsor, said she was "very hurt" by the level of privacy.

Kate wore pearl earrings to the christening.

People reported that the Queen's absence was due to a string of prior commitments, while her husband Philip, who retired from public duty, does not attend many events. Moreover, her wedding dress was also by the French brand - Givenchy.

This is being seen as an active effort to keep Archie out of media limelight.

Buckingham Palace has not disclosed who Archie's godparents are.

Fans first noticed the change to Meghan's ring at the Trooping The Colour parade last month - and that she was wearing a new ring, believed to be a gift from Prince Harry.
