Lower-order power comes to Australia's rescue in Ashes

England and Australia's women cricket team will face each other in the 2nd ODI of the Women's Ashes on Thursday in Leicester.

Brunt debuted for England against South Africa in 2005.

"It is a frustrating one from our perspective", said skipper Heather Knight. It was the constant chipping away, through small but consistent partnerships, which saw the tourists go 4-0 up in the multi-format series and leaving England with a lot of ground to make up if they are to wrestle back the Ashes.

England were without keeper batsman Sarah Taylor who had twisted her ankle and they will be hoping she returns for the final ODI with Australia getting stronger by the game.

But Beth Mooney (43*) and Jess Jonassen (31*) showed enormous composure to put on 60 runs to take Australia home with 4.4 overs to spare. Haynes took on the slow bowlers, lofting the only six of the match off Sophie Ecclestone and using her feet well to hit down the ground; Perry was more orthodox, waiting for anything short or overpitched to pounce on as she brought up her 27th ODI half-century.

After a second victory, Australia now have four points from the series, with another ODI to be played in Canterbury on Sunday, before the Test series worth four points and three Twenty20s worth two points apiece.

Nat Sciver became the first of Kimmince's victims, trapped lbw by one that skidded on, and Fran Wilson did not last long but Wyatt showed good objective in helping put on another useful alliance with Beaumont.

Only Danielle Wyatt (25) provided any meaningful support, with her dismissal by Megan Schutt signalling the beginning of the end for the home side.

Kimmince polished off the English tail by claiming four of the last five wickets to fall as the hosts collapsed from 183 for 5 to being all out for 217.

Two wickets in eight balls allowed Australia to squeeze in the field, with England unable to find the boundary after the 38th over.
