Daisy Ridley: 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' backlash was 'fair'

Star Wars’ Daisy Ridley Unsurprised by Last Jedi Backlash

Ridley's statement to USA Today has opened up the solved mystery once again in which she said that the director (JJ Abrams) has said that the question about Rey's parents will be answered in The Rise of Skywalker and at the end of the film, we would know what the deal was.

Ridley said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, and reported by Collider, that she met with Trevorrow at an event where she asked him about what happened. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in United Kingdom cinemas on December 19, 2019.

"It's just a different thing", she said. That's what Daisy Ridley wants the fans to know. One battle that we didn't get to see in the trailer, but was revealed in a recent Vanity Fair article is that of a big showdown between the two key people in the story: Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). It's quite emotional. There's a different drive than the previous two films, but there's a lot of fun. I really missed John (Boyega) during the last one, but we're back together and now Oscar (Isaac) is part of it.

It was one of the main points of contention dissatisfied viewers had for Last Jedi director Rian Johnson, whose take on the Star Wars franchise divided audiences. Ridley answered: "Everyone's going to have an opinion now anyway on the internet, but I also think it's fair".

"He was Josh [Gad's] guest at [the] Murder on the Orient Express [premiere] and we went for dinner afterwards, and Colin sat next to me and I was like, 'What's this gonna be like?' Because all I had heard-I didn't know what had happened, I just knew that he wasn't doing it anymore". Talk quickly turned to the highly-anticipated Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, however, and the newspaper squeezed in a question about Rey's parents. Abrams returns to direct the final installment of the Skywalker saga.

Then the actress discussed Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Michelle Rejwan, and executive produced by Callum Greene and Jason McGatlin.
