Apple's 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops recalled over possible fire hazard

Apple Received 26 Reports of 15-inch MacBook Pro Battery Overheating, Over 432K Units Affected

According to famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the tech giant would release an "all-new" 16-inch MacBook Pro later this year.

The recall noted that approximately 26,000 affected laptops were sold in Canada and approximately 432,000 in the U.S.

Apple recalled 15-inch MacBook Pros from 2015, and we now know this is based on just a couple of dozen incidents, none serious.

The recalled laptop computers have a 15.4 inch (diagonal) display, 2.2-2.5 GHz processors, 256 GB-1 TB solid state storage, two Thunderbolt 2 ports, two USB 3 ports, and one HDMI port. This amounts to 458,000 machines subject to recall. Another 17 reports were of minor damage to nearby personal property.

There has been one consumer incident in Canada and 26 in the USA, including five reports of minor burns and one report of smoke inhalation. One report involved smoke inhalation.

Apple announced this recall last week, and now the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) revealed additional details.

"The serial number can be found on the underside of the laptop computer or by opting for "About This Mac" from the Apple menu", according to the company.

Still, everyone with an affected unit should bring it in for service, especially as this includes a free battery replacement.

Apple is urging customers to stop using the laptops and schedule a service appointment to have the battery replaced at no cost.
