Joe Biden called Cory Booker after CNN interview

Only 3 percent of Democratic voters want a president in their 70s, survey finds

The controversy over Biden's comments this week have continued to reverberate at a crucial time in the campaign, with matters of race dominating the political discussion ahead of several prominent gatherings, including the first presidential debate next week and a multicandidate event before black voters in SC on Friday. "Because they trusted me". So far, it looks like no one else is eyeing to jump in, but that could change. Most Democrats continue to reject the idea of showing civility to the Republicans they demonize. There's no Clinton. There's no Obama.

Mr Biden launched his advertising and marketing and marketing campaign in April by condemning President Donald Trump's response to a racist march in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017. Still, because of name recognition, he sits high above the summit, but that's going to change. "I agree with Cory Booker". They can not keep the blades sheathed. There's a bigger issue for Vice President Biden.

Sanders essentially called Warren the preferred candidate of the "corporate wing of the Democratic Party", a label that surely infuriated Warren, who wants to be known as an enemy of corporations. The letters showed that Biden was eager to work with the avowed racist to advance Biden's 1977 legislative push to block the busing of students to integrate schools. I think of, you know, sometimes when you're out and about and you maybe go visit a friend.

Booker replied to the tweet, "No, you won't".

After Joe Biden boasted about his ability to work with segregationist Senators James Eastland and Herman Talmadge, I wrote: "There was nothing improper about Biden working with Eastland and Talmadge on non-racial issues of mutual interest".

Joe called Strom Thurmond of SC, who conducted the longest filibuster in history against the 1957 Civil Rights Act, "one of my closest friends", and delivered a eulogy at Strom's funeral.

In that spirit, just when Biden needed somebody at his back who wasn't sticking a knife in it, more than a half-dozen members of the Congressional Black Caucus stood by him. "But people are not talking about this", Richmond said.

Trump wasn't the only one who got back into the official swing of things - though Joe Biden's return was more to the churn of the campaign trail itself, and the media cycles surrounding a misstep. And you know, because they mean well, you kind of give them permission and keep moving.

"Vice President Biden's relationships with proud segregationists are not the model for how we make America a safer and more inclusive place for black people, and for everyone", Booker added.

The freshman New Yorker - who hasn't endorsed a 2020 candidate though is cozy with Sens. James Eastland of MS and Herman Talmadge of Georgia, two Democrats who were staunchly opposed to desegregation.

Affecting a southern drawl in telling the story, Biden said Eastland "never called me 'boy, ' he called me 'son'". Jokingly, he added, "He never called me 'boy.' He always called me 'son'".

As Booker explained on CNN on Wednesday, Biden's comments resonated with him on a personal level, recalling the "indignity" of "watch (ing) another man call my father "boy" or being called that himself. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Kamala Harris of California, who are candidates of color, and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, whose wife is black and children are biracial.

"There would possibly be not a racist bone in my physique; I have been alive to in civil rights my complete occupation".

A better tack for Booker would have been to solemnly shake his head in recognition of Biden's limitations and his out-of-touch foolishness, which, he might mournfully note, is not uncommon among those of a certain age.

Biden made the remarks on Tuesday at a NY fundraiser, recalling the bygone era of civility in politics, where politicians could work together even though they "didn't agree on much of anything".
