Saudi Arabia’s Flynas agrees to order 10 long-range Airbus A321s

The star of the show was the new A321XLR - Airbus says it the "world's most efficient and longest-range single-aisle aircraft" it will enable operators access markets requiring more range and payload.

Airbus officials avoided directly attacking arch-rival Boeing at a news conference ahead of the world's largest air show as the United States company's competing 737 MAX remains grounded for a third month.

Cebu Air Inc ordered 31 aircraft from Airbus SE worth US$6.8 billion as the Philippines' largest budget carrier targets an all-new fleet in five years.

JetBlue will buy 23 new Airbus planes, including 13 of the company's new long-range, single-aisle A321XLR, Airbus announced on Thursday. The American Airlines deal could give Boeing more incentive to push ahead with the NMA. There is no clear date for when the Max might fly again. In 2018 the airline carried around 6.6 million passengers on 60,000 domestic and global flights. A cascading series of issues would eventually result in the apparent catastrophic-malfunction of the MCAS autopilot system that is widely believed to be the inciting event that led to the crashes of two 737 MAX 8 airplane crashes in less than six months.

Twenty of the planes will be allocated to Hungary's Wizz Air, 18 to U.S. carrier Frontier Airlines and 12 to Chile's Jetsmart, the companies announced at a joint news conference at the Paris Airshow.

"The inherent aircraft economics of the Airbus A321XLR will widen our competitive advantage for stimulating demand for air travel in Central and Eastern Europe and beyond while minimizing our environmental footprint".

The news is a blow to Boeing, which has delayed its plans to produce a similar aircraft as it strives to get the 737 Max jet back in service after the fleet was grounded following two fatal crashes.

The agreement was announced in a ceremony on the sidelines of the Paris Air Show attended by the Chairman of Saudi Arabian Airlines Corporation Dr. Ghassan Al-Shibl and signed by Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Director General of Saudi Arabian Airlines, and Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer.
