OJ Simpson posts video to announce official Twitter account

O.J. Simpson appears in court during a preliminary hearing at the Clark County Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas Nevada

Simpson's account has yet to be verified by Twitter. And even politics. But for now let me just say to my fellow fathers out there, happy Father's Day.

Simpson didn't elaborate was "getting even" actually meant, but those who know about his notorious murder case might find that comment a bit unsettling.

According to Simpson, the social media platform will be where we "can read also [his] thoughts and opinions on just about everything". "It will be one of the best accounts on Twitter to follow".

Simpson created his official account on Friday, June 14, with the username @TheRealOJ32-a reference to his jersey number from his National Football League fame days.

The 71 year old's first post appeared late Friday and the account has already garnered more than 171,000 followers.

"This should be a lot of fun".

This week marked exactly 25 years since the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.

Simpson has continued to declare his innocence in the two slayings.

Simpson lawyer Malcolm LaVergne confirmed to CNN that the account was authentic, as was the video, apparently filmed by Simpson on a smartphone in the yard of a Las Vegas residence. OJ became the prime suspect in the murders and his trial gained global attention.

In a subsequent lawsuit in 1997, he was found liable for their "wrongful deaths" and ordered to pay the families $33.5 million in damages.

Simpson told the AP that "life is fine" and added that he is now in a place where he doesn't focus on negatives.

After nine months of proceedings, Simpson was found not guilty of the double murders of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, or her friend Ron Goldman, who were both found stabbed outside her California house in 1994.

He is often seen in Las Vegas, playing golf.
