Marvel's Avengers Gameplay Unveiled, Coming in May 2020

Marvel's Avengers Hank Pym

We should hear more about the gameplay of Marvel's Avengers later this week.

A description on the YouTube trailer offers a better idea of what to expect: "an epic action-adventure game that combines cinematic storytelling with single-player and co-operative gameplay". The highly anticipated title was unveiled last night during Square Enix's E3 2019 presser, which impressed the hell out of us.

This is an all-new original story that has narrative echoes of the Civil War comic book arc.

The heroic attempt to thwart such a heist ends in catastrophe. Society sees them as murderers, and Captain America is dead. After that, the Avengers were outlawed. Only five years later do they reunite and try to reassemble Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

As many predicted, it's being made by Crystal Dynamics and Edios Montreal, the people behind the Tomb Raider reboot. There are some big voice talents involved with the game as well; Nolan North plays Tony Stark, Troy Baker plays Bruce Banner, Laura Bailey plays Black Widow, Travis Willingham plays Thor, and XXX plays Captain America. Meagan Marie of Crystal Dynamics says the game will play out over "multiple years" with new content that will be rolled out after launch. It will support four player cooperative play online, new heroes and regions, and free DLC.

The game will be available on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia, so at least many gamers will have a chance to sample it. Marvel's Avengers: A Day hits shelves on May 15, 2020. Square Enix announced that it has partnered with PlayStation for this release, so those who pre-order on PS4 from the game's official website will get first access to an upcoming beta for Marvel's Avengers.
