Dak Prescott deserves a Carson Wentz-type deal (or more)

Carson Wentz has a new deal with the Philadelphia Eagles

Since Wentz still has two years remaining on his current contract, his total over the six years is $154 million and can grow to a max of $170 million, according to ESPN.

The Philadelphia Eagles have signed Carson Wentz to a four-year, $128 million contract extension.

FRISCO, Texas - When Ben Roethlisberger and Russell Wilson signed their new contracts with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks, respectively, earlier this offseason, Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones was quick to point out those quarterbacks own Super Bowl rings.

The deal keeps Wentz under Philadelphia's control through the 2024 season.

Wentz emerged in the 2017 season and was putting together an MVP-caliber campaign until suffering a season-ending torn ACL injury.

On the latest episode of the No-Huddle Show podcast, NJ Advance Media Eagles reporters Zack Rosenblatt and Mike Kaye examine the Wentz extension's impact on the rest of the roster.

For his career, the 26-year-old QB has passed for 70 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. Wentz posted an 11-2 record, but Nick Foles led the Eagles' push to the Super Bowl LII win. Most important, he has two NFC East titles, two playoff appearances and one playoff victory. Prescott has 67 touchdown passes, 18 rushing touchdowns and 25 interceptions and has two Pro Bowl appearances. The team has a fifth-year contract option on him for $22.7 million.

On the new money, Prescott is looking at $30 million or more per year.

Foles doesn't have Trubisky's tools, though, and suffice to say the bears didn't trade up to select their guy a couple years ago because they thought his ceiling was a second or third tier quarterback whose second National Football League contract could be a discount at a time when QB money has never been more outrageous. Both sides want to get a deal done before the season starts.

Based on stats over the last three seasons, Prescott has been better.
