Chelsea appeal Federation Internationale de Football Association transfer ban to Court of Arbitration for Sport

FIFA had issued the ban as punishment for Chelsea's transfer of young foreign players

Chelsea have lodged an appeal against the two-window transfer ban handed down and upheld by Federation Internationale de Football Association, the Court of Arbitration for Sport have confirmed.

And the ban will prevent Chelsea from signing players during the ongoing summer transfer window - which closes on August 8 - and the winter window in January 2020.

They are also appealing a £460,000 fine, which was part of the punishment for being found guilty on 29 charges.

The English club were punished in April for breaking the rules on signing minors in recent years.

The ban has thrown the Stamford Bridge club's immediate plans into the air, as star player Eden Hazard prepares for a move to Real Madrid and manager Maurizio Sarri contemplates a return to Italy.

"It is not possible to say at this time when the Arbitral Award will be issued", CAS said in their statement.

As reported by the Daily Mail, CAS released a statement this morning revealing that they have received Chelsea's approach.

The Europa League champions were sanctioned in February for breaching rules regarding the worldwide transfer and registration of players under 18.

"Generally speaking, CAS appeal arbitration procedures involve an exchange of written submissions between the parties while a Panel of CAS arbitrators is being convened to hear the appeal".

The CAS also said they would not provide any more information on the matter until the panel came to a decision.

Christian Pulisic, who spent the second half of the last campaign on loan with Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund, will be the only new arrival at Chelsea following a £58m switch back in January.
