Large snake found hiding inside Walmart shopping cart

Be careful which cart you choose - there may be a slithering surprise waiting inside.

A Walmart employee gathering shopping carts from the parking lot in Texas let out a scream when they found a snake curled up inside.

It was a lesson one Walmart employee learned the hard way when they discovered a huge snake inside a shopping cart.

An officer discovered the large rat snake after hearing a "loud scream" in the parking lot of a Walmart in Texas.

Police said resident John Heckaman, also known as "The Snake Charmer", saved the day and helped get the snake out of the cart and into the wild. The snake had worked its way into a group of shopping carts that had been sitting in a return area.

According to the police, recent heavy rains likely forced the snake out of its natural habitat. He was only bit once while moving the snake.

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and that's including the wildlife.

"The Texas rat snake is one of the most commonly encountered species of non-venomous snake in North Texas and this is especially true for the Dallas Fort Worth area", according to University of Texas at Arlington's Amphibian and Reptile Diversity Research Center. "Black rat snakes are constrictor snakes and will use their body to suffocate their prey".
